Happy Toilet = Jorakay x The Mirror Foundation

“Happy Toilet” is 2 x 2 meter toilet equipped with facilities for elderly, patients, and child, 30 units in total. These are for tribal villages in Chiang Rai for better public health and safety use of toilet as well as promoting sharing culture. Jorakay Corporate Company Limited is very happy and proud to support half of the initial fund of the project including its products for constructions in cooperation with The Mirror Foundation which will raise fund for the other half to pass on this assistance to more places.

In Thailand, cesspool toilet was made known and popular in rural area since around 1982 and on.

For more than 40 years, Thailand has widely and increasing used proper toilet in both urban and rural areas. But in remote area, particular on high land with limitation on transport and access to building materials, the construction of a proper toilet is fairly rare due to cost and transport issues. So ‘toilets’ for those living below poverty line are often poorly made with low quality material, resulting unhealthy and broken toilets.

Due to lack of funding, eventually toilets will end up as a germ depot including respiratory infection and gastrointestinal infection such as Diarrhea, Hepatitis-A, Dysentery, Cholera, and parasitic worm. Furthermore, many families have been poor, so cannot afford their own toilet, and direct affected their family members’ health.

Key principle for building toilet feature

  1. Toilet should be hygienic, suitable for users who can be elderly, sick, child, and fit budget and consistent with local condition.
  2. Local participation from families who obtain toilet, community, and society.
